Hawks Coaches Breakfast

Last weekend the Hawks organised a breakfast for all of our WABL & NBL1 Coaches. The purpose of the Breakfast was not only connecting as a group, but to start to lay the foundation for Coach Development going forward.

Coaching Director Matt Fahey and WABL Director Rocky Condo addressed the group regarding how the nature of WABL coaching is changing, the increase in divisions and teams and addressed several key issues and priorities that have been identified by the club.

A working group has been convened to take ownership of certain elements of the coaching development program with other interested coaches invited to join.

Lynx Assistant Coach Natalie Burton also spoke at the breakfast about the Hawks new initiative- The Athlete Wellbeing Program and looking at the well rounded athlete and the mental health aspects. The Program seeks to build life skills through the medium of basketball that are applicable to all facets of life – The Hawks Purpose ‘Provide a community of lifelong learning, participation and well-being supports this goal and the coaches role is crucial to making this happen.

Overall it was a very successful morning and is the start of some very exciting initiatives and an insight into future planning developments to ensure our coaches and athletes are fully supported.
