Become a Hawks Referee – Start Your Refereeing Journey

Love basketball? There’s more than one way to be part of the game.

Perry Lakes Hawks Basketball Association is encouraging anyone interested in becoming an official to start their refereeing journey.

Whether you’re looking to stay involved in basketball, develop new skills, build confidence or explore a pathway in officiating, becoming a referee is a great way to take your involvement in the game to the next level.

Ready to become a referee?

With the new Basketball WA refereeing framework now in place, there are a few steps to complete before you can take to the court as a new referee.

All new officials need to complete their C1 accreditation through Basketball Australia’s online learning and accreditation platform, etrainu.

Step 1: Create your etrainu account

If you don’t already have an account, register through the etrainu platform.

When registering:

  • Select “WA Accreditations & Education” as your region
  • Select “Officiating Referee Stream” as your role

Step 2: Complete your C1 training

Once you have your account, head to the Training Library and select:

BA Officiating – Referees

You’ll then need to enrol in and complete:

  • C1 Online Course
  • All four quarters of the course
  • Safeguarding Children in Basketball

Completing these modules is an important first step towards becoming an accredited referee.

Step 3: Submit your Hawks Expression of Interest

Once you’ve completed the required online training, you can submit the Hawks New Referee Expression of Interest.

Your EOI allows the Hawks Referee Program to register your details and contact you when a new referee course is scheduled or places become available for new officials.

What happens next?

The Hawks Referee Program will use your EOI details to keep you informed about upcoming opportunities to continue your refereeing development, including on-court training at Perry Lakes.

Our goal is to support you as you develop your skills and confidence and begin your journey as a Hawks referee.

🏀 Stay connected to the game you love
