TCD WABL CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON UPDATE

The 2026 season is progressing strongly for the Perry Lakes Hawks, with both the WABL and Open Championship programs continuing to show growth, competitiveness, and strong club culture.Across the WABL competition, a number of Hawks teams have established themselves as genuine contenders through the opening third of the season, with several groups remaining undefeated and many others sitting strongly within finals contention. The club’s depth has once again been on display a
cross both boys and girls programs, reflecting the strength of the Hawks pathway and the continued development occurring throughout the club.
Beyond the ladder standings, the continued improvement across all age groups highlights the commitment of players, coaches, volunteers, and families who contribute to the Hawks program each week. Teams have consistently shown resilience, competitiveness, and the ability to respond to challenges throughout the season so far.
Meanwhile, the Open Championship teams are now
approaching the final third of their 2026 campaigns and continue to build momentum at the senior level. Both groups have shown the ability to compete with some of the league’s strongest programs, combining offensive firepower with improving defensive consistency and growing chemistry as the season progresses.
Importantly, the success and development of the Hawks program is about far more than wins, losses, or scoring totals. While statistics can provide part of the picture, many of the qualities that define strong basketball teams are the things that do not always appear on the scoresheet. Defensive communication, effort plays, screening, rotations, leadership, floor balance, extra passes, hustle plays, and team-first habits continue to be major areas of focus throughout the entire program.
Another encouraging aspect of the 2026 season has been the competitiveness shown across the club from top to bottom. Week after week, Hawks teams have demonstrated resilience in close games, the ability to respond to adversity, and a willingness to embrace roles that contribute to team success. These habits continue to build the foundation for long-term development both individually and collectively.
As both competitions continue through the season, the focus remains on continued growth, consistency, and building momentum. The commitment being shown across the entire Hawks community continues to reinforce the culture and standards that make the program strong both on and off the court.
