Seva Chan hits his 300th SBL/NBL1 West game
This Saturday marks a huge milestone in the career of Hawks guard Seva Chan. Chan will play his 300th SBL/NBL1 West game that includes a SBL championship in 2012 with the Cockburn Cougars. Chan joins an exclusive club of players to reach this number of games.
Chan reflected on his career, “Reaching 300 games in the SBL / NBL1 West is a milestone that gives me a quiet moment to reflect, not just on the games played, but on the people, relationships, and experiences that have shaped my journey. This achievement reminds me how grateful I am for the teammates, coaches, supporters, and lifelong friends I’ve met along the way. The years have gone by quickly, it doesn’t feel that long ago I was suiting up for my first SBL game in 2011, which makes it even more important to pause and appreciate the journey and creating memories both on and off the court. I’d like to thank the Cockburn Cougars who were a huge part of my development and career where I played juniors and over 250 SBL/NBL1 games.
Basketball and competing in the NBL1 West has been a huge part of my life and provided a sense of self worth and identity. Now being 31 years old I still feel as competitive as when I first started in the league at 15 years old. Even after a number of injuries in the past couple of years and sitting on the sidelines, makes me appreciate the game even more and cherish the ability that the body can provide when it is healthy, so I plan on continuing to play and look after the body until the wheels fall off.
None of this would be possible without the support I had from my parents, with the countless sacrifices they made, rebounding for me and training me every single day, taking me to and from games and trainings, being my number one support and sharing their experience and analysing games with me. Also to my wife who lets me leave her and our 1 year old daughter for 3 to 4 nights of the week.
At this point of my career, I am focused on being as competitive as I can be and staying healthy. I am proud of how far I’ve come and I am looking forward to what the years ahead look like with the rest of my playing career and maybe down the track will get into coaching my kids in their social comps”.
Coach Damian Barr had the following to say, “Seva Chan’s 300th game milestone is a huge accomplishment. Any player who can reach a milestone like this deserves all the credit and applause that will come his way. Still playing with a smile on his face and pep in his step, Seva has been a wonderful addition to the Hawks group this year, bringing a mix of experience, humour and professionalism to all. This makes him such a great teammate, and his ability to mentor and guide our younger players is greatly appreciated. Despite being a fierce competitor I doubt anyone who has played with, or even against, Seva would have a bad word to say about him, he’s genuinely one of the game’s nice guys. To be able to see him play his 300th makes me both proud of, and for, Seva. Congratulations”.
Congratulations Seva on an amazing career and we look forward to continue to see you on court for the Hawks!
