VALE Chrissy Papakostas

Not many people who passed through the doors of both the old Perry Lakes Stadium and the new Bendat Basketball Centre, could have missed the smiley face of Chrissy.

Just over a week ago we lost Chrissy following a short illness.

Chrissy had been part of the Hawks family for over 15 years both as a volunteer and employee being a familiar face at the door for all Hawks and BWA competitions. From Juniors, WABL, Senior Domestic Comps, Country Champs, SBL & NBL1 (to name a few), Chrissy was there selling our tickets and making sure no-one “snuck in” without paying.

Her first association with basketball began when Phil her son, became a floor wiper & referee and progressed to SBL stats.  Chrissy never missed a day or night at the door. Her cannoli was a treat and homemade chocolates too.

Chrissy was a kind, passionate lady, with a strong work ethos, who would sit at a door greeting the parents & players, taking their payments, for hours on end without ever complaining.

All the WA basketball community will miss you Chrissy and especially the Perry Lakes Hawks Community.

For those who want to say goodbye to Chrissy, Phil has supplied the following details:

We will be having prayers on the 18th of February at Mareena Purslowe Funerals  15 Scarborough Beach Rd, North Perth WA 6006 at 6pm

On the 19th of February at 10:30am we are having our final farewell at St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church located at 22 Dianella Dr, Dianella.

Followed by a burial service at Karrakatta Cemetery at 12.30pm

Our thoughts are with Phil, Chrissy’s sisters & nieces at this time.

Rest in Peace Chrissy.
